2013 Tenuta Sant'Antonio Amarone della Valpolicella "Campo dei Gigli," Veneto, Italy (750ml)

Fine Amarone is among the most hedonistic of Italy's many great red wines. But where Barolo and Brunello can seem austere until they have had some bottle age or a bit of air, Amarone can be a deep, plush velvet sofa beckoning you to sink in and luxuriate.

And like California Zinfandel, a well made Amarone can present as balanced even at alcohol levels north of 15%. This one is a beauty. The blend is a traditional fopr the appallation - 70% Corvina and Corvinone, 20% Rondinella, 5% Croatina, 5% Oseleta. ~ Peter Granoff, Master Sommelier
