2015 Altesino Brunello di Montalcino DOCG, Tuscany, Italy (750ml)
Near the end of 2002, Elisabetta Gnudi Angelini, owner of nearby Tenuta Caparzo, purchased the Altesino winery with its old cellars situated within the historic walls of Palazzo Altesi in the northern reaches of Montalcino. Today, Altesino is firmly committed to maintaining its hard-earned reputation as a Montalcino institution and a global leader in innovative winemaking.
Since 1970, the company has been a leader in innovation. The introduction of the “Cru” (Montosoli) concept in 1975, the first experiments with barriques in ‘79, and the first Futures (purchasing wine before its release) printed for Brunello 1985 are some of the positive contributions putting Montalcino on the world map. The 2015 harvest in general was an excellent year in all areas of Tuscany. A vintage characterized by the health of the grapes, a good degree of technical maturation and the achievement of phenolic maturation: than the last harvests. Winter was mild and rainy, allowing the formation of water reserves necessary to face the heat hits of July and the first half of August. High temperatures blocked the activity of the plants and late August rains were welcomed. September had ideal ideal temperature excursions, so necessary to Sangiovese during maturation. The harvest, slightly earlier than usual, took place on sunny and quiet days from a climatic point of view, which has not happened for some time.
