2019 Y. Rousseau "Son of a Butcher" Red Blend, California (750ml)

A blend of 45% Tannat, 20% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Merlot and 15% Cabernet Franc, this wine was aged for 18 months in 20% new and 80% neutral French oak barrels. For three vintages in a row, this has been one of our most popular moderately-priced red blends.

Even though it's made in California, it definitely has subtle Bordeaux/South West French, earthy vibe with aromas of black plum, black pepper, cassis, cedar and leather. Juicy plum and raspberry flavors abound on the supple, full bodied palate. Our owner and Master Sommelier, Peter Granoff perfectly described it as the Tannat being nicely integrated into the core of the wine while at the same time being framed by the somewhat 'friendlier' Bordeaux varietals. It finishes on a somewhat spicy note with predictably yet not overly grippy tannins and good balancing acidity that doesn't let it come off as astringent or bitter. This wine is built for food like a big juicy steak or braised ribs and can easily age for at least another five years. This was a wildly popular wine in our wine club from a few months ago that sold out at the store, yet we were relieved to be able to procure more for all its fans!
